Location: Hove, Brighton & Hove, East Sussex
Work carried out: Ground floor remodelling
The clients owned a cottage style 1930’s house in Hove which had already been extended by a former owner. They were lacking in living space and a set of spaces that were separated by a North-East facing courtyard space which was not really used. The logical thing to do was to infill between the two wings and at the same time open-up the interior connections to it to create a free-flowing Living / Dining / Kitchen, and it had to be bright, airy and connect well to the garden. Inevitably to make something which sounds simple work, there were technical challenges, but the end result was very successful.
The clients are very pleased with the generosity of the space and the light interior now in the heart of the house thanks to a large rooflight which opens up completely. There are also concertina doors which open up to the rear garden. The space is warm and welcoming due in part to the higher thermal insulation and the clients’ own flair for interior décor.
