Location: Marine Parade, Kemptown, Brighton & Hove, East Sussex
Work carried out: Survey leading to design alternatives for sympathetic alterations and refurbishment including development of new Eco-home on spare part of plot (see 20 Wyndham Street, Brighton).
The site falls within the Queens Park Ward / East Cliff Conservation Area. 65-66 Marine Parade occupies the corner of Wyndham Street. A brief was established to consider the site as a whole and to remodel the rear Basement spaces to enable the insertion of a new house in the rear Yard for letting.
All the main elevations of the main house were refurbished, renewed or replaced and on the Wyndham Street elevation a pair of windows was added at Ground Floor Level and a new window at First Floor Level to take advantage of the view of the Palace Pier from the interior. (The original owner of this property, Oliver Dalton, had it built in 1933 and he was at that time the owner of the Palace Pier.) In the Basement a new hot tub and en-suite was formed as an enhancement to the Master Bedroom facilities. At Ground Floor Level a new Kitchen with a remote controlled retractable rooflight was installed.
An article was written about it by Robert Nemeth who reviewed it: ‘65/66 is a real mix of styles and it all adds up to one of the finest homes in Brighton & Hove.’
