The property is located in a rural setting and originally an Edwardian building. An extremely large traditional styled extension was secured for the clients, which more than doubled the size of the property. The new extension had to graft on seamlessly to the main house at all levels so that it would appear as original work and look like it had come from the golden age of English Country Houses. The design involved an almost mirrored South wing and a linking central section which had the Stone Porch, Hallway, Staircase and Landing as the centrepiece making the entrance a real event.
The work had to be to a very high specification so quality materials and craftsmanship skills were used throughout. The exterior brickwork was from Lambs and the roof tiles from Sandtoft – ‘Sussex Blend’. In terms of the interior finishes of particular note was the ornamental plastering, joinery, marble-work to the floor and staircase which together produced a very polished look. Despite the house exuding traditional charm, every modern amenity was considered including scene setting lighting and under-floor heating in main rooms. Air Source Heat Pumps were used for the heating and hot water system. The project did have a budget ceiling, so value for money judgements were made at all stages.
Particular credit must be given to the Main Contractor who had to continue to make progress despite the worst imaginable weather conditions and whilst the original completion date was impossible, a concerted effort was made to limit the extra time required to everyone’s satisfaction.
