Suburban house remodelled

Dec 16, 2013

Location: Hove, Brighton & Hove, East Sussex

Work carried out: Strategic staged applications to optimise scheme, design to integrate accommodation in Lower Ground Floor and roof.

Project description:

The original house was a 1960’s Mock-Tudor spec house on a steeply sloping site which did not have an interesting layout and did not make the most of the location and its views. The client was very aware of this and attuned to what makes a building special as he has a semi-professional hobby as an Architectural Photographer (some of the photos are his own).

The challenge was to remove unattractive features including the projecting front loggia entrance, faux leadlight windows and half timbering and remodel with a contemporary palette of materials and at the same time connecting the interior spaces which now included a Lower Ground Floor and a converted Loft into a coherent whole. The whole interior was renewed. Whilst there is a great view from the Ground Floor Kitchen & Living Room terrace, the new room at the top of the house has incredible views and is the perfect place to relax as the sun goes down.

The transformation exercise was successfully completed and it now feels like a totally different house from what it once was.
