Location: Hove, Brighton & Hove, East Sussex
Work carried out: Refurbishment with Ground Floor remodelling for Designer Client.
Project description:
The property is a large Victorian family villa which had been bought as two flats and had been neglected over a long period of time. Permission was secured for reinstating it as a single dwelling. An integrated proposal was required to refurbish and undo the works that had enable it to be two flats and at the same time to modernise the rear of the house with an integrated Kitchen/ Dining Room in the empty space.
The space created there is the epitome of cool sophistication. A simple white interior has transformed the original cluttered Kitchen. The whole flank wall is now full height cupboard space so ‘minimal chic’ is the look. Part of the cupboard array includes a work station and adjacent is an open shelved rack for books and objets. This effect is achieved by flooding the light in from above via 3 rooflights in the flat roof. The view out to the garden is through wall to wall concertina glazing which can be entirely opened. This contrasts well with the more traditional look in the refurbished Victorian Reception Rooms. The old is complimented by the new and vice-versa.
A redundant stable block at the bottom of the garden has found a new life as a Home Studio / Summer House.
